Diet - What a Word?
Diet is a word that is hard to swallow. Even for those of us who feel we
should loose some weight. And this is what it has become synonomous with
- loss of weight. While I believe that the term was formed some thousands
of years ago, it meant what you do eat and how you eat it. Or generally speaking,
what your regular eating habits consist of and at what times you do eat?
The Habits of Others
Take a look at some cultural eating habits of others. If you feel that slim
is in, then look at the way Oriental people eat or even Spanish people from
Mexico. Or how about religiously oriented people, like Hebrews or Muslims?
These people are not generally overweight. Some secrets are in the Rice and
others are in taking the time to fast. Active people can be overweight and
underactive people can be slim - a little contradiction here as to whether getting
out and taking a walk or jog will reduce your waist size.
Your Level of Comfort
What's really important is your own personal level of comfort.
To a certain extent - there are those of you out there who feel you
are not skinny enough and continue to deprive yourselves of
proper eating habits and for this, I recommend to you to accept the fact that some
fatty deposits are okay, and perfectly natural. I have always had a slighty
protruding belly and I am quite comfortable with this. It doesn't hinder my ability
to have great sex, nor does it stop me from functioning fully within my personal
lifestyle.
A Healthy Diet
And I am not talking about depriving yourself of food. Eat and eat well, is what
I am suggesting here. Take the time to learn what others are doing, who are not
only maintaining their level of proper weight but who are also staying healthy at the
same time. It has often intrigued me to see friends of mine, who have entered the
prime of their lives looking as healthy as the days of their youth.
Many of them were raised in fashions that included one little itsy-bitsy
thing on a regular basis - fruit. Others have maintained a regular routine of fasting
once or twice a year; which consists of eating a good breakfast before dawn, a
good salad for lunch and eating diner well before 6 p.m. Then they resist the temptation
of a snack in between.
Normally, the fasting rituals come in increments of 30 days
and basically allows the body to cleanse itself and totally digest the food within
it's system. But, who says you can't do it once a week, or once every ten days.
Whatever, works for you. The idea is, is to flush your stomach out from all the
food that doesn't get digested on a regular basis.
We have all had it happen to us,
or if you haven't then you are lucky, and that is, sometimes after a good diner, we
get really tired and go take a nap or good sleep. The reason this is, is our digestive
system is working extremely hard to get rid of the food we just ate. The dreaded
Thanksgiving Diner is a good example of when this most occurs to us - for what reason
many of us have a habit of overeating during this festive time of year and we pay the
price in our body's energy level being depleted and expended to digest all that great
food.
In Conclusion
To say the least, it is not all about what you eat. But about how you go about eating
it. While fast food is not the most nutritious meal you could ever have, it doesn't have to
add unwanted pounds to your body, if you do indulge yourself in it. Steaks and cake do
not have to be avoided. It is all about how and when you eat and how much of it you consume
in any given amount of time. So eat well and stay healthy.
